About us
About Gloucestershire Solar Compare | Independent Solar Comparison
We are an independent comparison and installer-matching service for homeowners in Cheltenham and across Gloucestershire. We help people find, compare, and choose vetted, MCS-accredited local solar installers. We are not an installer.
Who we are
Gloucestershire Solar Compare is an independent comparison and installer-matching service for homeowners in Cheltenham and across Gloucestershire. We are not a solar installer and we do not carry out any installation work. We exist to solve one problem: choosing a solar installer is confusing, the quotes vary wildly, and it is hard to tell a quality firm from a pushy one. We help you cut through that by matching you with vetted, accredited local installers and letting you compare like-for-like quotes in one place.
What we do (and what we do not do)
What we do is editorial and matchmaking. We publish independent guides on solar costs, grants, the Smart Export Guarantee and how to choose an installer, and we connect homeowners with suitable accredited firms. What we do not do is install solar, hold any installation accreditation, or carry out the work. We are not party to the contract you sign with an installer; that agreement is strictly between you and them. We are the step before that, the one that helps you find good firms and compare them fairly.
How we make money
We are free for homeowners, and we always will be. We make our money from the installers we work with, who pay to receive matched enquiries from homeowners actively looking for quotes. That is a common model for comparison services, and we are upfront about it because it should not change how you use the site. It does not add anything to your quote, and it does not bias our guides, which are written to be genuinely useful rather than to push a particular firm. You are never under any obligation to proceed with a quote, and you can walk away at any point.
How we vet the installers we work with
We only connect homeowners with installers who hold the relevant accreditations such as MCS, the certification required to claim Smart Export Guarantee payments. We check that the firms we work with hold appropriate certification and consumer-code membership such as RECC or HIES before we match them with homeowners. That said, our checks are a starting point, not a substitute for your own. We always encourage you to verify any installer's MCS status yourself, compare at least three quotes, and read the warranties before you sign. Our accreditations guide explains exactly what to look for.
Our editorial stance
Our guides are written to help you make a good decision, not to sell you a system. We use real 2026 figures, we say when something is not worth it, and we keep our content in plain British English without the jargon and hype that fills a lot of solar marketing. If a battery does not make sense for your usage, we will tell you. If your roof is poorly suited to solar, we would rather you knew before you spent the money. That honesty is the whole point of an independent comparison service, and it is how we earn your trust.
